The population is declining in the wild. Human activities, such as agriculture, settlement, and sport hunting have been the main causes of their extinction. Apart from that, natural threats have also played roles in its decline, such as resource competition and cross-breeding with its closest relative, Banded Pig (Sus scrofa vittatus).
