White Cockatoo is endemic to the islands of Halmahera, Bacan, Ternate, Tidore, Kasiruta and Mandiole in North Maluku, Indonesia. This species is also introduced in Taiwan.

This species has undergone a rapid population decline due to the increase in illegal trade and forest loss.
