The population in its range is small and has been experiencing a steep decline. Ex-situ conservation breeding is carried out in PCBA due to the above concerns even though this taxon has not been evaluated as endangered.

This species has been experiencing rapid decline due to trapping for cage-bird trade and habitat loss.

Even though this subspecies persists in captivity, there is only a slight probability for it to be found in the wild, due to excessive poaching for cage-bird trade.

The species has been uplisted to critically endangered, used to be a common sight in West Java, but now it can only be seen concentrated in one point only. Its rarity is mainly caused by high demand of this species in cage-bird trade. Even though its natural habitat is rough terrain of rugged mountains, poaching of this species is inevitable.
